情境阅读教学法Situational Reading Method

Since the opening of overseas Chinese classes, wehave adhered to the small-class teaching, which is deeply loved by Canadianstudents. We offer both classroom teaching, as well as online classes which areoffered to students from all over the world. Our pedagogy is centered by "Situational Reading Method" which is an proven effective method in leaningChinese especially for those whose first language is not Chinese. Wedeveloped our own textbooks Situational Reading to Learn Chinese Series.The textbooks are divided into three volumes. From beginner level to advancelevel, we have special step- by -steptraining through essay reading - the target vocabulary practice – situationalstory teaching - strengthening training - Chinese knowledge learning . Personalizedstories and reading materials are used innovatively during class. Based on this,various situational activities are organized. In this flexible, simulative and enjoyable learning environment, studentsnot only learn and master the Chinese words, but also develop their communicativelanguage ability. It is our ultimate goal to let students recognize andunderstand Chinese characters through reading, discover and use Chinese indaily life, apply what they have learned to practice, and enhance theirconfidence in Chinese.
Webelieve our "Situational Reading Teaching Method" has its uniqueadvantages, especially for overseas Chinese teaching:
1.Improving students' reading and language communicative skills. Star Schoolalways insists on that reading is the key to language learning. New character s need to be put intospecific contexts in order to truly understand their meanings. If they only know Chinesecharacters without reading, they can be " craftsman" of Chinese characters,but they will never grasp the essence of "Chinese culture".
2.Motivating students' various senses to participate in learning and apply whatthey have learned into practice. Through reading and classroom teaching, keywords frequently used in daily life are repeated in sentence patterns andstories at a high frequency. By making up stories and plots, students areencouraged to participate in the language learning and become the master oflanguage learning.
3.Mastering the knowledge of sinology comprehensively and truly improving knowledgeof Chinese culture. "Chinese CultureParadise" is designed in the course which adds Chinese traditional poetry,idiom stories, sinology knowledge, cultural customs, historical allusions andother elements of Chinese traditional culture. Therefore, while learning Chinese, students can have a comprehensiveunderstanding of Chinese traditional culture, cultivate "Chinesefeelings", and instill Chinese culture insensibly.
4. Stimulating interest in Chinese learning bymultiple perspectives and approaches. By the way of offline reading group,online editing story audio material, playing games, role playing and other fun activities,we help students immerse in Chinese atmosphere to develop their listening,speaking, reading and writing skills comprehensively. At the initial stage, Chinesehandwriting is introduced to students step by step. Our unique teaching methodsare the fundamental pillar for the popularity of the students and their parents.
